Shanghai skyline recreated in dice and poker chips

Boing Boing points us to this interesting art installation by Chinese artist Liu Jianhua who recreated the Shanghai skyline from dice and poker-chips. This was exhibited at the Galleria Continua in San Gimignano, Italy. A close-up shot follows after the jump. [Photos by Cinghialino]

Interesting, although his choice of material limits his ability to really create a likeness of the Shanghai skyline. I am guessing I am supposed to see this as abstract art that, due to the nature of the materials, makes a statement about modern China. Or was the artist just bored one Sunday afternoon in a gambling accessories factory?

I can not quite figure out what i am looking at though. Is the detail picture the Pudong skyline seen from the East? And on the overview picture the separate smaller piece is the Bund?
