Obama Inauguration Party at Glamour Bar

shanghaiist_obama_logo.jpg Luckily for us here in Shanghai, U.S. President-Elect Barack Obama's inauguration happens at around the midnight hour. That means, basically, that it's completely acceptable to drink to this historical event as it's happening.

Come join Obamaniacs and fellow well-wishers at the Glamour Bar on Tuesday, January 20th. There'll be Obamatinis, a live jazz band and a CNN broadcast of the inauguration from the big screen.

This party is organized by Glamour Bar and the same group of Shanghai-based Obama supporters who have been trying to help him get elected since last January.

Location: Glamour Bar, 6F, 5 Zhongshan Dong Yi Road near Guangdong Road

Time: 9pm on January 20th. The Inauguration Ceremony will start broadcasting at 12:30am.

Dress code: Red, white and/or blue.

....yes, that great American institution in the Glamour bar. Magnificent.

Come celebrate the 'Change That We Need' at a bar that caters to the preening, obnoxiously-pretentious, nouveau-riche wannabes of Shanghai!

Gag me with the irony.

First, I wanted to point out this is not a Shanghaiist event -- that may not have been clear from the post -- but I do plan on going.

Can you suggest other inauguration parties in Shanghai at venues that don't make you gag? I was not aware of any others.

I was unaware I had to pick a party that didn't make me gag. I'll get back to you on that.

Never said you had to. Just wondering if there were other events we were missing. As far as I know, if you want to watch the inauguration live in Shanghai with a roomful of like minded folks and you don't want to organize a party at your house, this is the only option.

Speaking of irony, isn't it funny that a comment about how some place is preening and pretentious could sound so haughty and obnoxious itself?

Can't afford to go to a free party at the Glamour Bar and maybe order one drink to celebrate what a lot of people consider a pretty historical occasion with like-minded folk? WAAH CRY ABOUT IT.

So you have to be poor and only go to Shelter to support Obama? How interesting.

Good to see the Glamour Bar regulars come out of the woodwork to defend its honor by defaulting to calling me poor. Cheers for proving my point.

Indeed it is a historical event, quantumcooney. Which is why I will be at home, surrounded by like-minded friends, just as Dan suggested. Not at a bar were the flaunting of wealth and materialistic consumption is encouraged.

Point missed. I'm not calling you poor (lord knows, glamour bar IS too expensive for me regular... but this party is FREE), I'm calling you a douchebag.

You know, because you're douchey enough to NEED to shit on someone else's party while trying to tie it into some college-freshman-esque commentary on wealth and class when, if you actually followed any of the values you espoused, you probably would've shrugged, said "It's not my scene," and forgotten about it.

Dear Moneybox, or whatever you call yourself,

I was originally planning on going to this party, but your incisive comment has shown me the error of my ways. I will now celebrate the inauguration by staying home with YM. Thanks so much for that. XD

Love and cupcakes,

Guys, get real!

Its Chinese New Year out there = no taxis anywhere. The Shanghai taxi drivers are all already in Thailand on the beach.

And you want to party beyond the subway closing time?

Better book a hotel room nearby, then, or Obama's reign will start with a solid hike home for you.

And that's why you memorize the night bus routes.

Are there any other places of live coverage? Malones perhaps?? But Glamour Bar??? Of all places (aiyoo)

The very concept of an inauguration party makes me gag (and that applies no matter who won). Save the leader worship for...other cultures.

Yeah Exactly,

The whole thing makes me gag no matter where it is. Well, actually the location is appropriate. After all, this is all about getting the middle class back into the stock market anyway.

It's the audacity of hype and the hijacking of change.

McKinney was the missed opportunity of the elections. And where is she now? Getting rammed by the navy while on a boat taking food aid to the Gaza strip. There's someone to believe in.

For the have-nots of the world this will be four more years.

Malone's is telling the Fillipino band to take five whilst they show the inauguration on the screens.

I'm told the Bamboo is going to show it too.

I'm for any party that shows the locals the possibilities when they have a vested interest in picking their own leaders...

Hmmm, I am going to try to come to this.
