Yeah Exactly, The whole thing makes me gag no matter where it is. Well, actually the location is appropriate. After all, this is all about getting the middle class back into the stock market anyway. It's the audacity of hype and the hijacking of change. McKinney was the missed opportunity of the elections. And where is she now? Getting rammed by the navy while on a boat taking food aid to the Gaza strip. There's someone to believe in. For the have-nots of the world this will be four more years.

Point missed. I'm not calling you poor (lord knows, glamour bar IS too expensive for me regular... but this party is FREE), I'm calling you a douchebag. You know, because you're douchey enough to NEED to shit on someone else's party while trying to tie it into some college-freshman-esque commentary on wealth and class when, if you actually followed any of the values you espoused, you probably would've shrugged, said "It's not my scene," and forgotten about it.

Good to see the Glamour Bar regulars come out of the woodwork to defend its honor by defaulting to calling me poor. Cheers for proving my point. Indeed it is a historical event, quantumcooney. Which is why I will be at home, surrounded by like-minded friends, just as Dan suggested. Not at a bar were the flaunting of wealth and materialistic consumption is encouraged.

Speaking of irony, isn't it funny that a comment about how some place is preening and pretentious could sound so haughty and obnoxious itself? Can't afford to go to a free party at the Glamour Bar and maybe order one drink to celebrate what a lot of people consider a pretty historical occasion with like-minded folk? WAAH CRY ABOUT IT.

Never said you had to. Just wondering if there were other events we were missing. As far as I know, if you want to watch the inauguration live in Shanghai with a roomful of like minded folks and you don't want to organize a party at your house, this is the only option.

First, I wanted to point out this is not a Shanghaiist event -- that may not have been clear from the post -- but I do plan on going. Can you suggest other inauguration parties in Shanghai at venues that don't make you gag? I was not aware of any others.

Guys, get real! Its Chinese New Year out there = no taxis anywhere. The Shanghai taxi drivers are all already in Thailand on the beach. And you want to party beyond the subway closing time? Better book a hotel room nearby, then, or Obama's reign will start with a solid hike home for you.
