Today's Links: shrinking pains for the tech sector

• It hasn't been a great week for people in the tech industry. Intel is planning on closing its assembly in Shanghai, the first plant it ever built in China, and moving to a lower-cost region. The move will affect 2,000 workers.
  
• Higher ups weren't safe either. Lenovo's American CEO was dropped to make way for Yuan Yuanqing, the company's Chairman and former top dog. The company said it'd suffered from a sharp drop in global demand for PCs, and would be turning the focus on its China business.
  
• Shanghai-based chip maker SMIC continued the chain of bad news, posting a miserable quarter where revenues dropped 27.5% and the net loss was $124.5 million USD.
  
• But at least we don't have to worry about bird flu, according to the CCP. The Ministry of Agriculture said there'd been no reports of bird flu among poultry since January, even in the provinces where the eight human infections happened.
• Especially since we might be on the cusp of finding a cure! Hurrah for Science!
  
• Great news to anybody in unofficial charity work here, the CCP may soon start recognizing non-governmental organizations. It'll be using established British charities as role models for its own voluntary sector.
