A 26-year-old Shanghai woman died in New York after being run over by an allegedly intoxicated off-duty police officer. Her family is now preparing to fly to the U.S. to handle funeral arrangements. The officer has now been charged with vehicular manslaughter, assault and driving while intoxicated. A woman identifying herself as the officer's mother blamed the victim, telling the New York Daily News that “It was her fault... my son went out and had a couple of drinks. He deserves to have a good time now and then.” Uh... worst mother ever? Source: Shanghai Daily

Horrible.
U.S. police officers, judges, and prosecutors will frequently get away with DUI. This guy would have as well if he hadn't killed someone.
What an unhelpful, completely false comment.

The statement at the end of this thread is sickening.
Chinese guy you think?
"Shanghai woman allegedly hit by drunk driving police officer in NY"
Uh, the woman was not Allegedly hit, she was indeed hit and killed. "Shanghai woman hit by allegedly drunk driving police officer in NY" would have been a better headline.
"U.S. police officers, judges, and prosecutors will frequently get away with DUI. This guy would have as well if he hadn't killed someone."
Wrong. But if you change the "Would have" to a "Could have" it would likely be much closer to reality. Officers of the law and courts DO get some professional courtesy and discretion in the US and in many many other countries. Not fair but its reality. Regardless of that fact though, this is a sad case and a tragedy for both the victims' families and the officer's family too. It really is too easy to be DUI and while the officer should have made a better judgment call, he now faces to consequences as well as the guilt of knowing what he has done...allegedly.
I guess the mother don't see Chinese people as human beings.
