Boxing Cat Brewery: Coming to a French Concession near you

It's almost as though Shanghai restaurateur Kelley Lee is reading our mind. First she opens Shanghai's best Mexican place, Cantina Agave, a short stroll from Shanghaiist headquarters (and she always has the flat screen tuned into classic NBA games). And now, we learn (from her) that she is opening a Boxing Cat Brewery almost next door to us. (If next Kelley takes over the Iranian consulate building and turns it into an art house movie theater, the wife may start to get suspicious.)

So, here are the details: Minhang's finest microbrewery/restaurant is expanding to Xuhui. The new location is a fantastically renovated old brick house (pictured) at 82 Fuxing Xi Lu, between Yongfu Lu and Wukang Lu (right across from Marrakech). The building's current tenants, Friven & Co. furniture sellers, are leaving, and Kelley expects the new Boxing Cat to open in June. The place has a sizable garden and two balconies, and we have a feeling it's guaranteed to become our "local." Something tells us Kelley is pretty excited about the location, too — perhaps it was the way she used "awesome" nine times in one sentence when talking about it.

One thing that should be interesting to monitor is the new Boxing Cat's relationship with its next door neighbor: The police.
