Best mistress competition in Qingdao ends in one death, five injuries UPDATED
UPDATE: Sadly, the person who first reported this story made it all up. It's fake.
When a married businessman staged an insane talent show to determine which four of his five mistresses should be let go because of the recession, it set the stage for one of the more bizarre crimes last year. The first mistress/contestant to be eliminated lured him and the four others into a car shortly after the contest ended, and drove them all off a cliff.
Around Dec. 6, police in Qingdao received a report that a car had crashed through the guardrail of a mountain highway. The female driver, Yu, had died and the five others were rushed to a hospital.
At first, it was written off as a traffic accident, but a letter from Yu alleged that she and the four other women had been simultaneously dating Fan, the businessman.
Fan had met Yu in a Qingdao restaurants where she was working as a waitress. She reportedly became one of his mistresses soon afterwards and lived in a rent-free apartment he provided for her. The five girls were introduced to each other, but all elected to keep dating him instead of giving up their apartments and 5,000 yuan a month allowances.
When his business took a turn for the worst, Fan decided to lay off all but one of his mistresses to save money. To select the best one, he allegedly staged a contest that tested the women on their beauty, their singing skills and their ability to imbibe alcohol.
Yu was the first to be knocked out of the competition based on her looks and reportedly decided to take revenge. She invited Fan and the other four to tour Laoshan Mountain, Qingdao before she left. Then she drove them all off a cliff.
Fan has now shut down his company and paid Yu's parents 580,000 yuan in compensation for her death. His wife left him after learning of the affairs... and so have the other four women.
