Live Music Preview: Jose Gonzalez, Dorian Concept, and P.U.T.S.

So last week we thought summer in the city had come early - temperatures were pushing mid-20s and the sun was shining. This week temperatures have rocketed back down to single figures. Ridiculous. Luckily, you can warm yourself with some quality live music this week - starting tonight.

Tonight
Snuggle up to Jose Gonzalez' covers and stripped down guitar pop as he hits The Children's Art Theatre on Huashan Lu Wednesday and then Glamour Bar Thursday. Provided you've got a ticket of course - it's now sold out.

Wed: 8pm, Children's Art Theatre, 643 Huashan Lu, near Wulumuqi Bei Lu 华山路643号, 近乌鲁木齐北路
Thu: 9pm, 6/F, 5 Zhongshan Dong Yi Lu, near Guangdong Lu 中山东一路5号, 近广东路, 6楼.

That doesn't mean you have to be left out in the cold. Wednesday is also the night you can catch Magnetic playing their bi-weekly show down at Anar. We love the way the back room at Anar makes us want to drink Milk Velocet, but can't help but feel if this band were gigging around town at a range of venues more people would be talking about them. Still, their reggae/ska/Xinjiang-warbling hybrid (trust us, it's better than that sounds) is enough to make you forget the cold winds outside, although it is slightly better on Fridays when there's more of a crowd.

Thursday
If all the people at Glamour talking over the top of the last Nordic troubaour to visit town put you off catching Jose there, then check out Dorian Concept who will be bringing some serious heat to everyone's favourite underground shelter - The, err, Shelter. Check out the video above, then pick your jaw up off the floor and head out there.
¥30, 9pm, 5 Yongfu Lu, near Fuxing Lu 永福路5号, 近复兴路

Friday
Friday, if you're not with Magnetic, we suggest you head back down below street level for some Acid Raindrops as People Under the Stairs hit town with their funked up hip hop and intelligent rhymes.
¥60, 9pm, 5 Yongfu Lu, near Fuxing Lu 永福路5号, 近复兴路

Saturday
If you fancy a change of pace on Saturday then warm yourself with some golden guitar sounds as Yuyintang goes folk for the night with the newly formed A-Z Band. We say newly formed, but the band is composed of two stalwarts of the scene: Wu Zhuoling (who you may know from the excellent indie-pop band Wednesday's Trip and her support slot with Jose) and Asiaeyes.
¥30, 9pm, 1731 Yan'an Xi Lu (entrance on Kaixuan Lu), 延安西路1731号 (入口在凯旋路)

Sunday
Rounding out the weekend, hunker down in YYT again as Sunday night sees RESO (which stands for Reconstruct the Experimental Soundscapes of Ourselves, naturally) host a night of left-field noise. Set up by one time Muscle Snog member Mai Mai, the RESO collective are putting on a jam session as well as performances by Tinnitus Movement and Dirty Beaches (see what they did there?) which should keep you toasty until the weather sorts itself out.
