For all you “qualified experts” out there, permanent residency is at hand! Shanghai officials have finalized the regulations allowing highly qualified professionals to stay in this fair city as long as they like.
From Shanghai Daily:
To qualify for permanent residency, applicants should hold a Shanghai Residence Card and might need to live in the city for seven years, said Vice Mayor Hu Yanzhao at a working conference of the Shanghai Human Resources and Social Security Bureau. The exact period of time has yet to be worked out, Hu added. "The time span of seven years is adopted by many countries in the world," he said.
Residence card holders would have to be local taxpayers and have joined the city's social security program by making contributions to the fund on a monthly or yearly basis.
Other requirements will include professional skills and technical qualifications, a clean credit history and no police records.
Detailed regulations will be announced by the end of the month.
