Live Music This Weekend: Magnetic, Frozen Street and, err, Brooke Shields
Maybe Shanghai's local music scene people were all at last Sunday's Oscars and are thus still sleeping off the hangovers, but things are pretty quiet in terms of live music this weekend. Still, thankfully, there is a little something for all you band lovers to attach yourselves to.
Tonight
Hollywood certainly seems on the minds of organisers at Yuyintang who have booked shoegazers Booji and rockers Triple Smash for their second Blurred night of "experimental" music. What has that got to do with Hollywood? Booji's name in characters is 波姬小丝 - the same characters for Brooke Shields. Don't ask us how we know that.

Saturday
Last week we bemoaned the fact that Magnetic - one of our favourite bands of late - weren't gigging around town. But now we know how Kate Winslet must have felt when she finally picked up a statuette (well, maybe) having discovered that they'll be up at Live Bar on Saturday. Ok, we've not been to Live Bar in a long long time, but this is a band worth making the trek for.
¥30, 9pm, 721 Kunming Lu, near Tongbei Lu, 昆明路721号近通北路
If the news that "once relevant Brit-pop legends" were coming to Shanghai has you rambling with excitement like a Sean Penn acceptance speech then you might want to get a warm up dose of MOR Mod-rock with Nanjing's Frozen Street and our own Hanging Gardens down at YYT as well.

A quiet weekend maybe, but that shouldn't leave you as disappointed as Mickey O'Rourke, there's a whole load of great live music coming your way in the next few weeks. Here's our nominations for what to look forward to:
Mar 6: Time to get excited for the night of The Young Knives with support from Sonnet and Boys Climbing Ropes
Mar 8: Bang Bang Tang, Momo, Candy Shop, and friends (we're sure someone's written about all them before somewhere) will celebrate International Women's Day with a female vocalists night.
Mar 12: Lindi from Cold Fairyland is releasing a solo album.
Mar 28: The brilliant Battles are hitting the town with Beijing punk rockersPK14 in tow.
April 4: The excellent Hard Queen is holding a release party for their long-awaited EP (we've heard a preview - it's very very good)
April 5: The aforementioned Gallagher brothers and company are rolling into Shanghai Grand Stage.
