Opinionist: It's time to rebrand the Shanghai Expo — as a World’s Fair Can't wait to get your tickets for the World Expo? Neither can we! Luckily for all of us, we now have a couple of dates to look forward to: group tickets will go on sale on March 27 and the public can start lining up on July 1. Basic price will be 160 yuan, three-day passes will be 400 yuan and seven-day passes will be 900. Discounts will be offered to the disabled, seniors, students, Chinese service-people and early birds. 900 RMB for a seven day pass.

Here's some better things to do in whichever week that is with the same money to really help Shanghai develop culturally. Instead of going to the expo do ALL of these on the same 900rmb in one week:

Go to one or two indie music gigs, any style(around 30-40 a ticket), buy the CDs there to support. You can also get the band's CD via 0093's Taobao shop.

Surf neocha.com for locally based indie artists. Browse their work, contact them and then go see their stuff for real and buy something. I've seen Popil's stuff up close twice, it's amazing.

Hit a small chain or independent clothing shop like The Thing and get a cool t-shirt to commemorate the week.

Donate what you have left to one of the many charities working in town like Roots and Shoots or whoever.

That's sounds like a great week and all your money went to good places, directly benefiting people who make our lives better in our own community.

Sorry, this might be a stupid question: What is there to do at the Expo? Do you buy a ticket to go buy more things? I don't understand.

Yes, you buy a ticket to buy more junk. Crass consumption and mass marketing at the expo to compliment what is around in everyday life.

And you are supporting the glory of the CCPee

Don't forget you're also paying the salary of such hard working Expo PR guys like that Bob that was pushing this white elephant so hard!!
