The return of Re-TROS

With the Oasis cancellation and rumors swirling around that 0093 - the underground practice space for most of Shanghai's bands - could possibly be closed down for the Expo, local music fans were in need of some good news.

The announcement that Rebuilding the Rights of Statues (Re-TROS) have a new album out and are going on tour - while not making up for the potential blow that 0093's closure (even if temporary) would spell - certainly falls into the "good news" category.

The last time the Nanjing rock trio hit town was back in December 2007 and they've not had a record out since 2005's Cut Off! EP. The band recently started a mammoth tour to promote their full-length album entitled Watch Out! Climate has Changed, Fat Mum Rises... and will be in Shanghai on April 18th - the penultimate date on the tour.

Originally known for their energetic live performances and fast-paced post-punk, we're told to expect a darker, more instrumentally layered approach for this eleven track album with songs such as Up Next: Bela Lugosi's Back reaching almost nine minutes. The band are sure to put in a powerful show when they arrive at Yuyintang later next month and this is certainly a record release and gig worth getting excited about. Indeed, added to the already impressive line-up of gigs for the next couple of months, it's enough to make you forget all about the canceled Mancunian Brit-poppers.

Video (not all that new actually) of TV Show (Hang the Police) from Cut Off! Re-TROS will be at Yuyintang on April 18th. Ticket details to be confirmed.

  • Yeah, the 0093 thing.

If the expo goes off the same way as every other major city planned event then we are in for a pretty bleak 3-6 months.

Cool to hear! I was at that show in December, and RE-Tros put on a fantastic performance! Looking forward to seeing them again!
