Live Music This Weekend: Red Banana, The Rogue Transmission, and Korean metal

Things are showing no sign of slowing down live music-wise at the moment. The next few weeks are going to see the long awaited Hard Queen EP release party, Battles with PK14 and their new proteges and a welcome return for Re-TROS. Then there's the 5th anniversary of Shanghai's premier noise outfit Torturing Nurse to look forward to, which is bound to be crazy. Meanwhile a new album will see the always brilliant Hedgehog heading to Shanghai on April 11th. Not only that, next weekend will see Fucked Up in town. They're out in Nanjing this weekend at the Castle Bar if you fancy hopping on the high speed train to go see them but if you decide to wait until they hit Shanghai, there's plenty to keep you occupied here while you wait.

Tonight
Hefei hotshots Red Banana (not to be confused with our own Banana Monkey) are at YYT. You can have a listen for yourself over on their Douban page, where there's a bunch of MP3s, or watch the video embedded here. There's a couple of ballad-type numbers, but generally the sound is pop-punk/rock. Locals Loudspeaker and cover band Snot Rockets will be in support.

Elsewhere, four bands meet for Live Bar's Spring Shouting event out in Yangpu. Things get under way at 7:30pm with an open mic and a jam session before the bands start up at 9pm. Top of the bill will be Korean metalheads The Lastboul.

Saturday
We didn't realize they'd been away, but apparently The Rogue Transmission are back. Wherever it is they've been, they'll doubtless return with as entertaining show as always when they play YYT on Saturday. Support comes in the form of DJ Sacco, Dropkicks, and Monroe Stahr.

Sunday
A full complement of weekend gigs at Yuyintang is finished off by the experimental sounds of Ben Hogue and friends entitled Silence or Silence or Brainwave Communication. Joining Mr Hogue will be members of Top Floor Circus and Torturing Nurse amongst others. There's a sneak preview of what to expect here, but what it boils down to is: this should be a show not to miss.
