Live Music This Weekend: Fucked Up, AK47, and Tian Pin Dian

It was only a matter of time. Yes, the traditional Midi Shanghai is on, off, on again, moved, all nonsense, season has started in earnest. Not only that, but it seems to be enjoying something of a vintage year. If all the claims and counter-claims are getting on your nerves, then we suggest you hit some of these shows this weekend and get Fucked Up*. We promise these shows aren't rumours. Honest.

Tonight
There'll be guns over Yuyintang tonight, sort of, as AK47 burst into town. If the band's name and the stomping Doc Marten boots on the album cover aren't enough to clue you in as to what this band sounds like, you can check out their MySpace where they've got a few Mp3s for you to unwind and relax to in the comfort of your own home. In support you'll find local shouty rockers Five Pointed Star. ¥50, 9pm, 1731 Yan'an Xi Lu (entrance on Kaixuan Lu), 延安西路1731号 (入口在凯旋路).

For something a little more mellow, you can head up to Live Bar (and it's not often you can say that). There you'll find Yang Qianchi and her beautifully crafted acoustic folk songs, supported by Sijia.
¥30, 9pm, 721 Kunming Lu, near Tongbei Lu, 昆明路721号近通北路.

Saturday
If thrashing around to AK47 wasn't enough for you, then you can do it all over again on Saturday as Canadian hardcore band Fucked Up squeeze into LOgO. Seeing just your average rock band in LOgO makes for an... interesting environment. But a hardcore band? This show could be explosive. Crazy Mushrooms and The Rogue Transmission will get things started while the STD DJs will do the after party thing.
¥40, 10pm, 13 Xingfu Lu, near Fahuazhen Lu. 幸福路13号, 近法华镇路.

The same night, Live Bar, perhaps as a riposte, perhaps not, will be hosting a night entitled Fuck All Metal. A brave new direction from Live Bar? If we tell you that the line-up includes Six Shot and Chaos Mind, you can judge for yourselves. Still, if it ain't broke. The real attraction for us that night though is the ever excellent Tian Pin Dian (Candy Shop).
¥30, 9pm, 721 Kunming Lu, near Tongbei Lu, 昆明路721号近通北路.

Over at Yuyintang meanwhile, indie rockers Sound Fragment will be promoting their new album. You can have a listen here. Hopefully recovered from the illness that forced them to cancel last week's supporting slot with The Rogue Transmission, new laowai band on the block Monroe Stahr will be in support.
¥40, 10pm, 1731 Yan'an Xi Lu (entrance on Kaixuan Lu), 延安西路1731号 (入口在凯旋路).

Sunday
Is Sunday night becoming experimental night at YYT? We're not too sure, but for the second week in a row, they're closing out the weekend with the in sound from way out there. This time round you get a double dose release party - everyone's favourite Japanese/Korean experimental duo 10 are back in town bringing with them their intriguing lo-fi noise, and Shanghai's own Ben Houge will be opening with his bright brand of sweet, sweet love songs.
¥30, 8pm, 1731 Yan'an Xi Lu (entrance on Kaixuan Lu), 延安西路1731号 (入口在凯旋路).

Monday
But wait, there's more. Proving we just can't let go of the weekend, we're including a bit of spiel about Monday night's live music in this here preview as well. If all the naughty words above have gotten to you, then cleanse yourself over at YYT with the Clean Boys China Tour. We know that sounds like prison slang, but it really is a music night - Danish garage punk to be precise. Apparently, this show is part of the longest ever tour for a Danish band in China. Answers for the second longest in the comments below please.

* When we say Fucked Up, we of course mean the aforementioned band (see what we did there?) not anything nasty like. Shanghaiist doesn't condone getting fucked up in any other way.
