Wonder if this would have happened had the journos been whiteys? Seriously, Asians (esp Chinese) have a propensity to treat their own like shit. Witness how a security guard in China will treat a sweeper like crap but bow in deference to the "official" or rich guy and thusly get treated like shit by the guy he's bowing and scraping to.
