Shanghai Pudong, Hongqiao airports uniting by subway before May 2010

line two.jpg File this under the2010 World Expo actually making our lives marginally more convenient, huzzah!

Shanghai's Hongqiao and Pudong airports are pretty darned far from each other - what with SHA located a good 13km East from downtown Puxi and PVG set squarely at the very Western tip of Pudong. Getting from one airport to the other usually involves a blend of taxis and buses (sometimes combined with metros and the Maglev) through often traffic jam-ridden highways.

But thankfully for those of us who prefer the more predictable human jams of the subway, News 163 has reported that Metro Line 2 will be extended both Westward to Hongqiao and Eastward to the Pudong Airport by May 1, 2010, just in time for the World Expo.

Sure it doesn't sound as convenient as the proposed extension of the Shanghai maglev line between the two air traffic hubs, but it's less likely to draw the amount of protests that derailed that very project...

...assuming the project has been derailed. Hmmm.

Yes, but the metro's going to take an eternity. The maglev would have been quicker for dedicated airport-to-airport transfer because it doesn't have 20-odd stops to make.

What kind of communist government listens to the people anyway?

They should have quite literally railroaded that project through.

No no! You got the directions all wrong. SHA is west of downtown Puxi and PVG (Pudong) is set at the eastern tip of Pudong!
