Xinjiang Blog Recommendation: The New Dominion

the_new_dominion.jpg Since nobody's had the brilliant idea to set up a Xinjiangist yet, we rely on various blogs getting blocked on and off to learn what's going on about the region. If you already have Far West China and Opposite End of China (possibly taken down?) already on your blogroll, consider adding this one too: The New Dominion.

The purpose of The New Dominion is to provide a constantly updated source of news and information about China’s Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. Our hope is that over time, The New Dominion will serve as a resource for Xinjiang scholars and enthusiasts that can provide both a snapshot of the latest happenings in the region and a database that can better illustrate historical, economic, and cultural trends and patterns over extended periods of time.

We've read through it and it seems to be well-written, relatively frequently updated (about to the same level as Black and White Cat), and thoughtful - we especially liked their coverage of Xinhua's Xinjiang media blitz after earlier this month. It's also got a great Uyghur language section, for those of you planning on heading there before Kashgar gets demolished. Check The New Dominion out... while you still can.
