Here’s a short video of a download speed test of China Telecom’s trial 3G wireless network, which is on the CDMA 2000 1x EV-DO standard. (We usually hear about China Mobile’s TD-SCDMA network, foisted on them by regulators against their wishes, and the “European” standard WCDMA network that will be operated by China Netcom).Quite frankly, we won't be holding our breath. As far as we know, only a very small number are on the trial for now. The more-likely-than-not possibility is that speed will screech to a halt once every Tom, Dick and Harry is on the network. Nevertheless still something to look forward to, so bring it on China Telecom! The user starts downloading a 490.17 MB file using the popular download accelerator Xunlei, and as you can see, it reaches speeds of close to 300 kbps, which is considerably faster than you can do using ADSL at home. I want!

kbps is different from KBps because 8 bits = 1 Byte. Thus 266.67KBps is roughly 2133.36 kbps or 2.1 mbps.
China Unicom is the carrier for the W-CDMA standard. China Netcom ceased to exist when the Telcos were reorganized last year.
Note: "Xunlei" is known as "FlashGet" in most of the world.
