Photos: Hedgehog @ YYT

We were lucky enough to catch Hedgehog, one of China's finest bands, rocking their short and spiky pop-rock at Yu Yin Tang this Saturday. We hope they come down from Beijing to visit us again soon!

Were you the photographer who was near the front in the centre during The Mushrooms?

Honestly, gigs at YYT are so good now, only one irritation left, photographers with big pro-set ups in the middle of the crowd.

While I hate to find myself agreeing with Andy Best, he is 100% right on that one. I have no problem with people taking photos at concerts, half the crowd does and sometimes I do it myself.

But it's a punk concert, not a fashion photo shoot. These dorks wandering the stage and through the crowd with 50,000 kuai cameras, getting in front of everyone and trying to get every fucking angle with three types of flash patterns, should be kicked the fuck out of the club. They're just getting in the way for everybody else, who wants to see the musicians.

I could give a fuck-all about seeing follow-up pictures the next day on Shanghaiist or Flickr or whatever the fuck these camera nerds do with the pictures. Furthermore, I'm sure they could take pictures 90% as good without having to constantly hover the stage.

Finally, these hidden-camera shots of people in the crowd are really lame. Either ask, or don't take the shot, it's common courtesy.

Exactly. Nothing wrong with a few shots from the side without flash. But it's generally understood that flash photography is a no at events in other countries (where most of these ppl are from). Getting in the middle with a large flash is rude and unfair to people who want to watch the show, and the band, and ... turning the camera into the crowd and letting off a flash into their faces is asking for a beat down.

First off, this show was beyond phenomenal! The new songs sound so great live, almost makes it hard to listen to the studio album again.

As for the billion shutterbugs; I don't mind so much that people wanna take pictures but ya, that flash was ridiculous and made me unable to watch the show for a couple songs. If you want to take photos of the band, get a few good shots and then chill, but don't start shooting a huge flash into everyone's eyes, YYT is WAY too small for that nonsense!

Speaking of YYT's size, the last two weeks I went to two shows at YYT and their venue is getting too small for the demand. Does anyone know if they are thinking about this and possibly making any kind of adjustments? I know not every place can be as roomy as Dream Factory but it seems like YYT could move their bar to the side room so that more people could see the band.
