What to expect at the Shanghai Auto Show

The world's premier car show opens up after Shanghai's Formula One Grand Prix. With all the major foreign auto companies (at least the ones still standing) presenting their vehicles including thirteen new models for 2010 the show is right up the alley of car-enthusiasts.
Where: Shanghai New International Expo Center 2345 Longyang Road 上海新国博览中心龙阳路2345号
Starts: Wednesday, April 22 to Tuesday, April 28
Price: 200RMB from Emma Ticketmaster

If you're planning to go the the Auto Show in Shanghai tomorrow, you can expect to see a running theme this year. No, we don't mean scantily clad malnourished models draped over the latest cars (although there will be plenty of that. Volkswagen seemed to have shelled out the most this year for models). We mean that a lot of the concept cars are all about battery power.

Chery seemed to be the only car on the lot to have a functioning electric car (the Riich M1) but other car makers who have jumped on the green bandwagon included Peugeot, BMW, Volvo, Mercedes Benz and Hyundai.

You'll also see a world premier of Porsche's Panamera, a 4 seater with actual trunk space.

And what would an Auto Show in China be without a bit of Shanzhai. Our personal favorites are the BYD S8, that has a Saab's arse and the eyes of a Merc, and the Chinese version of the Hummer.
