Jackie Chan may not want to be free, but at least he wants to be green!

Say what you will about celebs talking politics, but perhaps, this is Jackie Chan at his best - wearing his Greennovate Green T-shirt and looking sweet as a little kitten. And come on, who didn't enjoy the bathtub scene in Shanghai Noon with Owen Wilson and Jackie Chan drinking baiju and wearing nothing but bubbles? That almost makes it okay that he thinks Chinese people need to be controlled... right?

Today, April 22, Greennovate will be hosting its second annual Earth Day event, in partnership with eco-friendly companies like Eno, DesignLi3 and Naked Retreats. They are promising to showcase green living, green fashion and green design and are set to unveil their green rooftop.

In an interview with ChinaTravel.net on green travel in China, Mihela Hladin, founder of Greennovate, provided us with green living tips for Earth Day:

Mihela: The most practical tip is: use common sense. Most people enjoy places with lots of daylight (saves energy), having greenery around (filters the air), drinking out of glassware (reduces waste).

If you are buying new furniture or refurbishing your apartment, look for low VOC paints, minimize glue, use local materials, look for Energy Star labels on appliances and try to find ways to minimize waste.

Green rooftops have big potential in Shanghai and could be a great place to work, hang out or plant a small herb garden. We are just finishing the green rooftop at our office. It doesn't take a lot to make small changes and even these small changes can make a big difference for every day living.

The Greenovate event will showcase green living, with live music by Reggae band Lions of Puxi. For more information contact: ina.kukovic@gmail.com or go to earthdayshanghai.cn.
Where: Creative Spaces (528 Kangding Lu near Xikang Lu, 康定路528号)
Starts: Wednesday, April 22, 6PM to 10PM

And how does she feel about happy-go-lucky-superstar turned world's-most-famous-freedom-hater Jackie Chan's endorsement? Oh, give him a break already! His thoughts on politics (assuming they aren't mistranslated anyhow) aren't going to change the minds of any governments, but his thoughts on other things - like his multiple charity initiatives - could still influence legions of fans.

Mihela: Hats off to Jackie! We sent out the whole package of Tees to various celebrities and Jackie was the first one that made an effort sending his pic back. Green role models play a significant part in changing habits and making environmental issues popular among future decision makers.

Whether or not you still like Jackie, get thee over to the Greenovate event tonight. Lions of Puxi will perform a "green" song especially for us.
