12 rounds with the Boxing Cat

Shanghaiist has much love for Kelley Lee and her quest to bring good food and drink to the people of Shanghai.

However the latest promotion at the Boxing Cat Brewery seems to be asking for trouble:

Anyone who drinks 12 pints(!) of their microbrewed (i.e. strong) beer in 2 hours(!!) gets the drinks on the house, and their name on a wall of fame.

No word on whether they will also help you call an ambulance, or a priest to read the last rites, or at least someone to mop up the mess you inevitably make outside their front door.

Dude....spell my name right James! jk...just to clarify, we already had someone beat the 12 Rounds challenge. And that's 12 BRITISH PINTS (20 oz) not American (16 oz). Sam Skeist from Chicago, 30 years old. Completed 4/18/09, start time: 5:52pm, finish time: 7:45pm. For the record, the only priest we can provide is Gary, and I don't know if he counts!

That is bonkers. What did he look like afterwards?

I once tried to drink 24 stubby bottles of Stella in an evening, and it did not work out so well.

(Sorry about your name spelling- but if you will go adding random letters...)

this reminds me of a contest a sacramento radio station ran while i was working there: "hold your wee for a wii". the wii was quite popular and hard to come by at the time, but they didn't expect water intoxication to kill one of the contestants.

it was quite the faux pas, needless to say.

This challenge would be improved be adding a "driving home" leg to it.

That 24 bottle "Stubbie Challenge" was actually a long running thing amongst my group of friends. There was no time limit and throwing up was OK as long as you didn't make yourself throw up, any power naps had to be 5 minutes or less, and the use of artificial stimulants (you know what I'm saying) was strictly forbidden.

No-one ever got past 20.

I realise this makes me and my friends sounds like the Village People, but seriously- Stella is strong.

Maybe the "Wall of Fame" is a memorial to all those brave folks that were, for a few fleeting moments, able to get their BAC above .4%

I'll agree with stucky. Encouraging patrons to slam down 12 English Pints of strong beer in two hours is so obviously dangerous and sleazy, it really leads me to believe Kelley Lee is a bad person.

Oh chill out Super688 I'm sure they stop serving if you pass out or suchlike!

I can do this. See you soon.

I can do this. See you soon.

Shanghaiist accepts no responsibility for any embarrassing dancing or throwing up outside of a taxi window that you may do McLustin.
