Ever wanted to look at Shanghai through the lens of one of those older Sim City games? While we’ve discovered this 3D map of Shanghai before, James Fallows over at the Atlantic brought it to our attention again (it has been two years since we last swooned over it, after all) and we’ve re-realized how cool it is. It’s called Edushi.com
Besides exhibiting 3D renders, Edushi also gives us the specific locations for Metro exits and bus stop routes. Even better, click on the bus route and it’ll give you a list of the route’s stops (all linked to their other locations)… finding out exactly where you can catch the bus is actually a lot easier when you can see exactly where by whatever skyscraper it picks up passengers. It’s still completely in Chinese, but that’s nothing Pera-kun (or, better yet, learning enough Chinese to recognize street names) won’t fix.
Just for fun and to see how far its come along, we took a look at some of the places we frequent through Edushi:
The terrible gridlocks here are only barely soothed by the ability to get some Beard Papas right before you board the subway.
One of the few parks where you can actually sit on the grass. We’ve got a month or so before it gets uncomfortably hot, so we’re using up as many picnic-happy days as we can here.
Hmmm… wait a second. We don’t remember that much greenery or empty space around this area. So okay, it’s not completely accurate once you get away from the busier, more big building-ed areas of town.
Still, we’re writing this up as a fun resource and a great way to waste time during the work day.
