Music: Thursday threesome

Music lovers can get their weekend started early tonight with three great events going on around the city.

My Digital Generation: How can independent music make money in China?
The monthly creative talk organised by our good friends at Neocha turns its focus to music and whether independent artists and promoters can really turn a profit here. Shanghai's music scene is largely built on a DIY and community ethic but the recent furore surrounding Soma's deal with the Dream Factory and Pepsi's shambolic attempts to cash in on the scene mean that this topic is particularly pertinent right now. Not only that, but one of the speakers is Soma head honcho Lao Yao. He'll be joined by local IDM artist B6 and record label marketeer Yoyo for what promises to be a fascinating discussion. This event will be in Chinese and English with translation available.
7.30pm, Factory, 1F, Building 4, 1933 complex, 29 Shajing Lu, 意工场, 沙泾路29号4号楼1楼, 1933 创意园区

An Evening with The Rogue Transmission

How much do you love The Rogue Transmission? If your answer to that question is "a lot", then head on down to the back room at Anar tonight where all your wet dreams will come true. Even Dan Shapiro himself has said that "this show's gonna be so rad it's making my pants tighter just thinking about it." Over the course of two sets, TRT will not only be debuting a bunch of new material, but will be throwing down some of their old numbers in a country/acoustic/swing stylee.
¥30, 9pm,129 Xingfu Lu, near Fahuazhen Lu 幸福路137号, 近法华镇路

Nojiji Crew
For something completely different you can check out YYT where the Nojiji label crew will be rocking up with a bunch of their experimental bands in tow. The groups in question will be Mafeisan, ong (who feature a panda* as one of their members), Sunwei, and Maze. Also on board will be local kings of noise Torturing Nurse. Check out the video above for more of an idea of what to expect, suffice to say it should make for something far from your average ordinary run of the mill gig.
¥40, 9pm, 1731 Yan'an Xi Lu (entrance on Kaixuan Lu), 延安西路1731号 (入口在凯旋路)

* ok, someone dressed as a panda
