Theater: Room service, anyone? Neil Simon's California Suites

We're holding our breath for this next production - it made the rounds on Broadway and on the big screen, and now it's coming to Shanghai at the East West Theater, which recently also hosted productions of Life X 3 and Waiting for Godot.

Between June 5 to 7, watch the antics and hijinks in the confines of a hotel suite in the Hollywood Hills unfold in "California Suite", playing at Little Theater of the Shanghai Workers' Culture Palace (Wen hua gong xiao ju chang), located in Peoples Square at 251 Bei Hai Lu near Yunan Lu.

The play promises an evening of shameless eavesdropping in this four-part original comedy written by prolific playwright Neil Simon - the lives of a married man and his comatose hooker, an Academy Award-nominated actress and her gay antique dealer husband, a divorced couple caught in an embittered custody battle, and two couples vacationing together are held under the microscope at a hotel suite in Beverly Hills.

The production was loved by critics and the bigwigs at the Oscars, Academy Awards and the British Film Awards.

Boasting an international cast from Shanghai's first locally-based English language theater ensemble ever, we're feeling particularly sunny about EWT's California Suite.
