Has KFC been substituting cod fish in its food with some other type of species? According to Xinmin, an insider at the fast food establishment has alleged that it uses a species of fish called "Dragon Cod" (龙鳕鱼) instead.
Dragon Cod is supposedly a much cheaper fish than regular cod, but has fat that the human body cannot digest and therefore can cause diarrhea.
Now that the media is on the KFC cod problem, the Shanghai Administration Bureau for Industry and Commerce has begun testing the fish at various restaurant locations, most recently sending samples to a Shanghai university professor for confirmation.
KFC has denied the allegations. A spokesperson for the restaurant emailed the Xinmin reporter, contending that:
KFC Codfish-burgers and sticks are made exclusively from the imported 'Blue Whiting.' 'Blue Whiting' is a species that belong to the cod family; it is very different from Dragon cod. Customers may be assured of it. Also, including all the KFC advertisements and promotion materials, KFC never says to the public that the raw material of cod food is from Alaska Cod.
KFC also claimed that no customers have been recorded complaining about KFC cod fillets causing diarrhea.
But the spokesperson's protests have raised a new question. What type of species of cod is "Blue Whiting"? The Xinmin reporter contacted KFC's suppliers, who said:
The cod burgers in KFC are made from the 'Narrow Cod (狭鳕鱼)." This is the cheapest kind in the cod family. However, regardless of the low price, the 'Narrow Cod,' which is from the deep ocean, is still good and healthy.
However, according to specialists, "Blue Whiting" is definitely a different type of fish than Narrow Cod. So if there's three different groups claiming three different types of fish, one wonders what's actually being used at KFC.

Hmm.. good that i never ate this i KFC.
The thing is, most restaurants that serve "cod" are not serving cod. Due to severe overfishing, cod stocks are way way down. Codlike fish is about the best one can expect at any fast food restaurant.
"has fat that the human body cannot digest and therefore can cause diarrhea" hence the inclusion of the term "Zinger"
This seems like another nationalistic sucker-punch designed solely to remind everyone who the roaders are.
Who orders fish at Kentucky Fried Chicken?
T- the same people who buy that Mushroom beef wrap monstrosity.
