Party: We see the mysterious Dragonboat Fest warehouse!
Apparently worried that nobody would believe this party was real, the mysterious hosts of that mysterious warehouse party invited us to check out the venue - as long as we promised not to tell who they were or where it was.
And so on Sunday afternoon, we were bundled into a cab and taken to the secret location, where they let us snap some picture and ask a few questions. Mostly, we were curious about the secrecy.
"The Shanghai Insurgency is a nom de plume of an existing crew in the city," they explained. "Those who need to know already know who we are, but we prefer anonymity right now so as not to dilute our message: that its all about the music."
"We are doing this free party for the pure love and fun of it - and because we think Shanghai deserves it. There are a lot of party animals in this city who have been let down for various reasons, such as the shocking daft punk scam... or just the huge amounts of ridiculous hype and misinformation which surrounds many events," they went on.
And what music were they planning to play?
"...a wide variety of quality dance music spanning all the usual genres plus a few more the hipsters have yet to hear and make up ridiculous labels for," they told us.
So basically, we're guessing you'll hear a little bit of techno, a little bit of trance and a lot of post-warehousepunk-neo-whatevercore-psychosomethingwave revival.
