Tonight: Local bands return to their dreams

I have a dream... a song to sing. Yeah, that's right, we're quoting ABBA. What of it? We won't be expecting to hear that song tonight (probably for the best), but instead you will see eight local bands performing as the artists who first inspired them to get into music at Yuyintang's "Back to the Beginnings of Dreams" night.

That means Brain Stem as Greenday, Five Pence as Guns 'n' Roses, The Nunnery as Nirvana, Bloody Mary as Radiohead, The Elephant Makers as Blink 182, The Rovers as Led Zeppelin, Hanging Gardens as The Cure and Five Pointed Star as Linkin Park.

Although it's not exactly difficult to find cover bands in Shanghai, we reckon these acts should be a little more interesting than the average, so get down to YYT and kick start the Dragon Boat Festival early.

With this being a holiday weekend, there will be five days of solid gigs going on in the city, including The Mushrooms' High School Party tomorrow night and the Big Kids (not the band) Party on Monday with Lu Chen. More details on those shows coming soon.

¥30, tickets from 8:00pm, bands start at 9pm. 1731 Yan'an Xi Lu (entrance on Kaixuan Lu), 延安西路1731号 (入口在凯旋路)
