Despite China’s strident attempts to protect itself from the A/H1N1 virus, a domestic case was discovered yesterday in Guangdong province. The patient had been in direct contact with another suspected flu patient, one who was confirmed to be a carrier of the virus on Thursday.
According to China Daily, the initial carrier is a 28-year old Chinese American that flew in to Guangzhou from New York on May 24, after a stopover in Korea. Officials at the Health Ministry have also reported two new cases in Guangdong’s Shenzhen city this Friday.
Meanwhile in Shanghai, health officials confirmed yesterday that a second case of the swine flu has been discovered here. The latest patient is a 22-year old male who came from Australia and flew on Air China flight CA178 to the Pudong International Airport.
The Shanghai Daily reports that he was on the same flight as Shu, the first confirmed flu patient, who has since been treated and is expected to be released from the hospital in ten days.
At this point, the victim count in mainland China has risen to 15.
