ChinaSMACK hit by hackers?

chinasmack_dosattack.jpg Everybody's favorite portal for Chinese BBS happenings, chinaSMACK, has gone down in a Denial of Service attack suspiciously close to certain sensitive anniversaries. For those of you who don't need to deal with these kind of things, DoS attacks are when hackers flood a target's server in an attempt to keep it from functioning. Usually, it's done by either continuing to force the targeted computer to reset, or consume its resources so much that normal users are shoved out from accessing it. We don't really know how long chinaSMACK will be out of commission, or why it was brought down in the first place (though we have our suspicions - especially after reading this article), but we welcome anonymous tips to our tipline! Until we know, we'll just sit here desperately hoping it comes back soon. (Thanks Bryan!)

If you have visited or lived in China at any point in time you will realize that state sponsored trolling will obviously exist just for reason alone, Chinese labor is cheap.

Go to a supermarket for instance and each aisle will have three members of staff with little or nothing to do, same is true of restaurants. Before you say that these people are uneducated and are not tech savvy, please take in to account that China has a huge surplus of graduates competing for few jobs and would eagerly snap up state job with a solid pension trolling ion the internet.

The question I would like to ask BBC and EastMan as well as all other 50 cents on this board are:

Could you of not used your time more productively? For instance by volunteering at a nursing home or teaching in the hinterlands of Xinjiang

Could you please provide a valid counter argument about the issue of a proceeding post? If you wish to comment about the problems of the U.S or any other country which takes your fancy, please go to the relevant ...ist page.

Finally why wreck a site catering to the needs of westerners and not your own country men?

If Eastman and BBC1 aren't already part of the 50 Cent Army, maybe they should join. If they're going to be fenqing clichés anyway, they should at least get paid for it.

Why would The Man not just GFW the site though? To knock it out of usage for the rest of the world as well?

Well, it would have happened sooner or later to that site. It will happen to this site too one day.

Backwards, backwards, backwards....it's almost 1989 again.....

Dang it man. Where am I supposed to scored China related smack now? Danwei? Yeah right, their shit don't get me high anymore. Shanghaiist also don't work either. Only thing that can do it for me is some good ol' smack from Chinasmack.

If they can still serve up a page, this can't be much of a DoS attack.

Are twitter and flickr GFW'd, now?

china smack is a terrible website. it's a site with mostly foreign trolls with an anti chinese view point. i would advise the chinese govt shut down this site, and arrest the webmasters.
