Eye on Gay Shanghai: Mainland China's 1st Pride event

PrideWeekSchedule.jpg Amidst all the hubbub of an unmentionable anniversary, the LGBT community has been planning it’s own great leap forward. Shanghai has been chosen for Mainland China's first Gay Pride event - Shanghai Pride!

Spokesperson of ShanghaiPRIDE and the city's most fabulous homosexual, Hannah Miller, said, “Shanghai is undoubtedly China’s most liberal and progressive city and it is the logical choice to host Mainland China’s first gay pride festival. It speaks volumes for China’s advancement that such an event can now be organized - it shows that China is becoming a modern, tolerant and forward-thinking nation.”

Co-founder of Shanghai LGBT and Shanghai Pride, Tiffany Lemay, added, ‘…last year, we saw the Beijing Olympics described as “China’s coming out” party. Now China is really coming out - this time from the closet.’

Shanghai Pride runs from this Sunday, June 7 to June 14th with a variety of events including films, food, hot body contests, poetry, panel discussions, wine tasting, drag queens, and parties. Don’t miss the raffle that benefits Chiheng Foundation AIDS Orphans project.

Gay, lesbian, bisexual, transsexual, inquiring, and straight are all welcome to the events. Check out the calendar here!

(Full disclosure: Shanghai Fag Hag, as an organizer of Shanghai Pride, really hopes everyone joins the event…even straight people like herself.)

So are you saying it destroys traditional society? Why? People are still going to love who they wanna love. "Traditional" families and relationships is not going away.

oh pleasw. why you gota be in others' business? Stop being a dick and just let others be.

Chinese views? Alot of it is influenced by the west (at least recent history). Besides, if you are talking about ancient China I don't think they tripped about it much. I believe they had much more balanced views of sexuality. So what? What is it so strange bout it? I don't get it, seriously. It's just two human beings doing **consensual** things to each other. If there were something wrong with it then nature won't allow it, like you know impossible within the laws of physics. it's silly.

    please.

fuck. I hope this brings some attention to the Chinese government like that sex theme park in Chongqing and gets shut down.

Some Chinese views should not be changed and this is one of them. No gay parade.

Arrogant western institutions are dying out, you only need to look at their divorce rates to see that they're concept of marriage is meaningless. Thankfully our Confucian society has stood the test of time. I however would love the opportunity to march in a pride parade with my boyfriend.
