Another bus spontaneously combusts in Shenzhen

What's going on with China and its exploding buses? Just days after that bus fire in Chengdu killed 24 people, one in Shenzhen burst into flames as well. On the morning of June 13, a public bus on the 320 route began emitting smoke at a traffic light intersection.

According to Southern Daily (translated by China Digital Times), the driver and ticket seller frantically opened the door and safely dispersed the 20 or so passengers on board. Thanks to the quick exit, nobody was hurt, though the bus had been burnt to a "skeleton" by the time fire engines had arrived.

The coincidence of two big bus fires so close together seems to have raised fears that the accidents are actually terrorist attacks, with some netizens hypothesizing that Tibetan independence groups might be behind everything, Chinasmack noted.

Of course, that is at best nothing more than a straw horse right now. Authorities noted that the immolation has been taking place in new buses specifically, and two buses in Phuket had also spontaneously combusted recently (though, besides the Southern Daily article, we couldn't find any other news backing up that factoid).

Like many of your Shanghai brethren, it may be time to invest in your very own bus hammer. While the driver said there were six emergency hammers on the vehicle, the reporter wasn't able to find a single one.
