Quote of the Day: Qin Gang (秦刚), Foreign Ministry spokesman

qingang-gay.jpg 我想提醒你的是,这里是外交部的新闻发布厅,
不是讨论同性恋问题的场所。
What I'd like to remind you is this. This is the Ministry of Foreign Affairs press conference and not a forum for the discussion of gay issues.

— Qin Gang (秦刚), Foreign Ministry spokesman

In response to a question by a journalist on why the word "homosexuality" was among the list of filtered words in the
Green Dam censorship software even though China has no laws against homosexuality. [Source]

Actually, he looks to be possibly of the homosexual persuasion... Very metrosexual cadre with pink tie and perfectly coiffed, jet black hair.

I thought someone would catch this...

He managed to come across as both boorish and equivocating; and this is the rising star of Chinese diplomacy, and "China's new face". Obviously, neither Mr. Qin nor his boss is sufficiently in touch with the rest of the world to see anything wrong in this retort. I can see Mr. Qin repeat his witticism at the dinner table to his family, with a chuckle. Yeah, all is so very droll.

As I suspected, it takes another 50 years for China to rejoin civilization.

Perhaps what Qin Gang meant to say is that gays in China are not having any foreign affairs.

I like the fact how he handled it, pointing the gun right back at the person who questioned the matter. Well done.
