For the past year, the non-profit and non-governmental organization Hands on Shanghai, with the help of ad agency TBWA and Kodak, has been putting cameras in the hands of children from migrant families and teaching them principles of photography both inside the classroom and out in the field. Several of the photos taken by the kids through this learning program, called "Shutterbugs," will be on display and up for auction this Sunday at Glamour Bar, with the proceeds going towards expanding the program in Shanghai and Chengdu.
According to Hands on Shanghai founder Rich Brubaker, "Shutterbugs is designed to provide migrant students with an enriching educational experience that helps them to build their confidence levels, both inside and outside the classroom.” Each three-month photography course is taught by volunteers from the community. Both beginner and intermediate-level classes are designed to encourage students to have fun while learning.
The event starts at 11 AM and runs through 4 pm; tickets cost RMB 100. Those of you interested can email shutterbugs@handsonshanghai.org for information on ticket purchase locations.
