Those born after 1990 (called 九零后 jiu ling hou, or after 90s, in Chinese) have been known as the "alt generation" in China. Some say that they are individuals with their own thoughts of how they ought to conduct themselves; others complain that they are too unrestrained.
So when this after-90s girl mixed filial respect with the very "alt" art of tattooing by commemorating her grandfather by etching him on her back, it attracted a lot of attention right away.
On June 25th, a thread about "a after-90s girl commemorates her grandfather by tattooing his photography on her back" was posted on Bandao.com. In the post it said:
你觉得,她这样做,你支持她吗?""Speaking of 90-after, people will think of negative words such as alternative, stupid, etc. Now, please take a look at this tattoo on this little girl's back. When the girl told you that she only did this tattoo because she was so sad that her grandfather passed away, how would you react? Some of you may think that she is not a good girl because she did tattoos at such a young age. However, on the other side, the girl had undergone so much pain to commemorate her grandfather. In your point of view, do you support of what she did?"
The thread then triggered a huge discussion about after-90s kids, which was split pretty clear down the middle.
One side scorned the little girl's behavior, like this netizen:
Is it really to commemorate the old man? It is so stupid. However, this is individual behavior. I think if you want to tattoo to remember people, tattoo your grandfather on your left foot, grandmother on your right foot, dad on your left arm, mom on your right arm. When your grandchildren ask you about how their relatives look like, just take off your clothes and teach them genealogy."
Meanwhile, others were more supportive, feeling that what the girl did for her grandfather was a meaningful gesture:
There are thousands of reasons for a person to tattoo someone's photography on her/his body. No matter whatever the reason is, one has to have enough spiritual supports to undergo the pains. People are usually biased about 90-after. A grandfather who can have such an obedient granddaughter is very lucky. Please, don't think negatively about everything that relates to 80 or 90-after. It is so common to tattoo a passed away relative's name or photography in western world."
What do you think?

Is this really that big of a deal?
What the heck is on his face though?
The woman has ruled out the possibility of ever getting it doggie style.
LOL! Nice one. I guess she'd better get used to a bukkake life...
I'm going with weird and gross - but no more than other full back tatoos of other people.
Say, for example, University of Alabama football coach Bear Bryant: http://is.gd/1hQH4
That could be really unsettling during sexual intercourse.
what does "alr generation" really mean?
