Video: What Happy Girl Zeng Yike sounds like when sung well

zengyike.jpg One of the most controversial entrants of the new Happy Girls, the reincarnation of that uber popular Pop Idol-like show Super Girls, has been Zeng Yike.

The young girl played her own song, which was cute, but was such a bad singer that one judge actually quit when she made it into the Top 20. We were a little surprised at her good fortune too - we know the franchise hasn't always been the best about shooting actual singing stars to the top, but most weren't as off-key or thin-voiced (or “pure and innocent,” by some people's strange standards) as Zeng.

Well, we aren't sweating it too much, since she'll probably be kicked off before we get to the Top 5. In the meantime, after hearing other people on Youku sing her songs, we're beginning to think she might have a career as a songwriter. It's standard Mandopop fare, but decently catchy when sung by the right voice:

Why did it take us this long to realize her talent? Listen to her sing it (and watch the judge wig out when she gets accepted):

Oof.
