Shanghai cracking down on public drunkeness?

drunken_laowai.jpg If you're planning on going out to the Hengshan Lu, French Concession area tonight, be forewarned - it seems like the cops down there have been cracking down on excessively drunk people, inside of cars and out. A tipster told us that he's seen as many as ten cops on the corners of Wulumuqi Lu and Yongjia Lu every night and a few more hanging around by Zapata's. Not only are they doing random drunk driving checks, they've also become much less forgiving of public displays of drunkenness and loitering. The breathalyzer testing has also been confirmed on Baoqing and Huaihai Lu. Perhaps they're afraid foreigners coming for the Expo will be disgusted by the sites of their drunken compatriots? P.S. No disrespect to the drunken laowai pictured, who very charitably and heroically chugged beer after beer at our July 4 party near where the cops are now patrolling.

Good. Foreigners have it too good in Shanghai. I've seen drunken laowai crowd around taxi drivers (opening the driver's door so he has to stop, and then rushing the car), rob things from convenience stores, harass locals and disrespect girls; they act like Shanghai is their big fraternity.

Police never do anything because of the language barrier; they think dealing with foreigners is more trouble than it's worth, so unless it's something extreme they just leave them alone.

Oh please!!!I don't understand why does it have to be a difference between drunken laowai, Chinese or an alien?!?! If they are doing something illegal - then yes, police should deal with them. But last time I checked, drinking is very legal in Shanghai...and from my experience, most drunk foreigners can still walk and get home, but Chinese people stumbling out of KTV at 5am are mostly being carried out and puking on the sidewalk...

Obviously that photo cannot have been taken in China, much less Shanghai. All crackers with no Chinamen. Is it possible Shanghai has been colonized yet again?

And Chinamen don't get caught drunk in public because they're always hiding out in their little private kingdoms (rooms?) in some club with copious amounts of Xiao Jies attending to their needs (for payment, of course). Afterwards, they slink out the back entrances into their cars and swerve home.

Plenty of Chinese are visibly drunk when openly puking on the sidewalk, in restaurants and bars, buses and subways.

The girls just head home with big nose.

You're obviously referring to the ABCs or Taiwan boys roaming the streets of Shanghai trying to relive the glory days of the Green Gang and KMT rule...

Damn, that look's like a typical lout I see around China, and other parts of Asia. Of course, in Cambodia and Thailand, they do sorts of things that will get them arrested in China, like playing with boys.

YEAH!! In China they save little boys and girls for CCP "officials"!!!

Damned Lao Wai!!

LoveChina, I am not sure about that, but the continuous news of horny Laowai's abusing Cambodian, Thai and Vietnamese kids is very depressing indeed!!! Remember the Canadian dude with young girls with his face digitally swirled to hide his identity. Have you been to Pataya? Seeing these old white men with Thai boys in tow? I am not saying all Laowais are like that, in fact only a tiny minority, but I am pretty sure you are one of those perverts.
