Walking near construction areas can be a dangerous endeavor, a fact that holds especially true in China. Around 5PM yesterday, 3 passers-by were injured when a fence suddenly fell off a construction area on Huangxin Lu in the Yangpu district.
When Xinmin reporters rushed to the scene, they saw that more than 10 meters of the construction fence collapsed and the concrete stumps, set up to stabilize it, had toppled onto the sidewalk. A witness claimed that it had been very windyand the fence was blown to the sidewalk, hitting a walking lady, as well as a mother and her son. Luckily, they were not severely injured.
After the incident, the construction workers reinforced the fence. But from what we have seen, it still looks the same as before. Since even built-up buildings seem to have a chance of falling down (such as the one in Minhang), we feel we need to put forth a friendly reminder: Don't walk near construction areas in China.

A few years ago, something like this happened on Nathan Road in Hong Kong and quite a few people were killed.
I'd not only avoid walking near construction areas in Soho NYC where a crane collapsed 6 months ago but also the built-up buildings like Paris airport.
