Following their grand opening this past Friday, bar/lounge Not Me keeps their momentum rolling with the launch of Heart Attack, a weekly Indie Rock night focusing on live music great indie music.
Starting this Thursday, the folks at Not Me hope Heart Attack will give guest musicians, artists, and writers that are "down for the cause" a chance to strut their stuff in a cozy indie setting.
Organized by everyone's favorite rock-jock DJ Sacco, the series will feature superstar DJs from the local rock scene including Boys Climbing Ropes' Little Punk and Morgan (on separate nights) and YYT's Super Sophia.
You won't find these guys on a Mixmag list any time soon, but you will find them spinning some quality tunes with Sophia for one promising "lots of indie rock and Chinese stuff like Carsick Cars."
The next couple weeks already have DJs like Ozone and Red Red Red booked and we're psyched to see another outlet to enjoy live music in Shanghai.
(Tip: Bring in your iPod or a CD of your favorite indie tunes; if they play your song, you get a free drink.)

Week Around the Ists

I think it's kind of cool to have local band members playing DJ at a club, but it isn't "live music." This is the second or third post on Shanghaiist calling Not Me a live music venue, and while I'm sure it's a great "indie" place, etc, unless there are actual bands playing actual instruments (even if those instruments are laptops) in real-time, it's not live music.
I agree, even if "iPod playlist venue" doesn't have the same ring to it.
Yeah, it's a cool idea and a good line-up of people but "live music" it ain't.
I'm especially intrigued by the Han Han (from Miniless) and Little Punk night on the 23rd, there should be some interesting selections from them
I suggest reading this artical ... "Hipster: The Dead End of Western Civilization" its a good read.

Hipsters. Hip-hop heads. The French. Any number of groups throughout our city are quite capable of annoying the shit out of everyone else. However, the best thing is simply to ignore those around you and focus on having a good time. Works like a charm.
"The French" I loled. I couldn't agree more with your statement... for some reason, hipsters in Brooklyn piss me off to no end.. but in Shanghai everyone (the laowai at least) have at least a few things in common, and a desire to have a good time usually ranks pretty high on that list.
