This morning, the No.2 line stopped working right in the middle of rush hour. According to one tipster, there were half hour to 40 minute long delays in total trip time with the metro stopping for five to 10 minutes at every stop.
According to Shanghai Daily, the delays were due to a power cut between the line’s Lujiazui and Shijidadao stations.
Since thousands depend on the metro every morning and the No. 2 line is probably one of the most used in the entire metro system, this led to giant clogs of people at interchange stations. Buses near stations on the No. 2 line quickly became overcrowded as well as commuters switched to those to try and get to work.
The Shanghai metro system is pretty damn reliable most of the time, something we probably take for granted… until things like this happen.
