In May, two sisters who were attending an elementary school in Kunming, Yunnan, were suddenly arrested by the police. Their charge: prostitution. The girls’ parents were also caught and beaten for allegedly attacking police officers.
Then, three days later, the sisters were tested in the hospital and turned out to still be virgins, making the charges that they were “prostitutes” highly suspect. What went wrong here?
From media reports in the months after, it seems that most put the fault with the police. Liu Shihua, the father of the sisters, claimed that the police beat him in the police station, causing many bone fractures and contused wounds. Moreover, this incident caused the two sisters to drop out of school because their classmates were avoiding them.
Open and shut case of the cops being dicks, right? Not quite. The event took a dramatic and unexpected turn two days ago.
According to a deeper investigation, Liu Shihua provided false evidence to the media and framed the Kunming police. Liu was in jail for 9 years on the charge of robbery and theft. Together with Zhang Anfen, who Liu had lived with, they sold Liu’s daughter into prostitution to make a little cash.
On May 16th, when Liu knew that the police was coming to arrest them, he ordered Zhang’s daughters – the two sisters – to exchange clothes with his daughter, thus framing the police to arrest the wrong persons. Afterwards, Liu sent the sisters to the hospital and proved that they were still virgins.
The story doesn’t end here. The whole incident triggered huge reactions among Chinese soceity and netizens. Many netizens still choose to believe that the police is the fault side and framed Liu up by releasing fabricated news on the press conference.
We can’t help but wonder, who exactly is framing who in this case?
