Meiwenti Film Contest screening 12 short films on Saturday

in Arts & Entertainment

meiwenti.png Did we ever tell you how much we love Meiwenti Productions or Juan Vargas‘ slapstick, pervy sense of humor? We were there for the epic Swat Chicks set in sci-fi Shanghai. We walked out thinking WTF!!! (but in a good way). And we giggled and guffawed through last year’s Short Erotic Film Awards.
If those awards were anything to go by, this year’s Against All Odds contest will be just as memorable a night. 12 of the best indie short films from around the world will be screened. Films and actors will be selected for Winning Film, 2nd Best Film, 3rd Best Film, Best Actor and Best Actress by a jury of film industry professionals. Meanwhile, we the audience get to chip in and vote for a People’s Choice category award winner.
Each independent film maker had only one month to write, shoot and edit a short movie (8-10 minutes long) with the theme “Against All Odds.” The requirements were as follows:
1. ACTING:one of the actors must cry in a scene
2. EDITING: L-cut editing
3. CINEMATOGRAPHY: You must have a dolly zoom shot
4. SOUND: You must include the sound of a radio program that you make yourself
One of the best aspects of Meiwenti’s contests is that its film makers and actors are people that you will probably recognize (everyone was working unpaid too)–people you’ve seen when you were out and about. So it’s really a community feel, Meiwenti is a labor of love and this all makes for fun evening. Plus, they have a red carpet, serve booze and we have just the dress for it!
When: Saturday July 18, 7pm
Where: Xingguang Art Film Centre, 586 Ningbo Lu near Nanjing Dong Lu and Guangxi Bei Lu
(宁波路586号 近广西北路)
Prices: Tickets are 50-70RMB, 70RMB @ door, first come first serve.
To reserve tickets call 152 2133 1572 or email: [email protected]
