Live Music This Weekend: Hip hop, sexy animals and Channel One

animal_patterns_party.jpg Another week, another great spat of live music here in Shanghai - and this time around, there's a good mix of electro indiepop, hip hop, synthy stuff and some punk on the side. YYT, like usual, dominates the weekend with Yuguo on Friday and a rock-filled Sexy Animal Party on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Channel One Summer Music Series continues, with Hard Queen and Candy Shop playing to mall crowds on Saturday, and a repeat performance of Candy Shop, with Little Nature joining in, on Sunday.

Friday

Shanghai's only Hip-Hop community party is back! Lab Crew is hosting the “Back to the Roots” 3rd Year Anniversary. Quality MCing and turntablism to the tracks of real hip-hop, funk, soul, and breaks, featuring DJ Freezer (Xinjiang) and DJ Sense (Shanghai).

If you're more in the mood for checking out something more rocky, Yuguo is hitting up Yuyingtang (YYT) again to play his atmospheric electro-influenced stuff. Concluding an exhausting yet exciting tour of 19 cities in China, Shanghai's YYT is the final stop of their tour.

Saturday

During the day, the Channel One summer music series will continue into its second weekend with Hard Queen and Candy Shop playing on Saturday. It's a great way to check out some of the coolest bands in Shanghai in an airconditioned location, while getting some shopping done on the side.

And then at night, hit up YYT for local favorite the Mushroom's "Sexy Animal Party". Anyone who comes dressed in animal pattern clothing gets in half price, so we'll be breaking out the leopard prints. Five other local bands are playing with the Mushrooms, including Black Luna (pop-rock), Yingsu, Blood Mary (visual-rock), Chongjiejing (pop-rock), Da Sha Mao (pop-punk, old-school)

Or for something a little different, New wave diva fembot machines Ziyo will be smashing their synths at Zhijiang Dream Factory. They're described as "futuristic 80s sounds from Mars."

Sunday

Sunday is lazy day, so there's only one thing we're pimping. Day four of the Channel One summer music will start with a second appearance by Candy Shop followed by Little Nature.
