Foreign friends, ever thought about working in the Chinese municipal administration? Apparently it's possible - a 28-year-old French man named Diaz Yannick worked as a "temporary city guard (城管)" this Tuesday in Wuhan.
At 9:30AM sharp, Diaz appeared with all the other Chinese municipal administrators in Jianghan district of Wuhan city, wearing the guard uniform. When he confronted a food store which distributed food and drinks around the street, Diaz used his newly learned Chinese and said, "您好!您出店经营影响市容和交通,这些商品还拣进店里好些。(Hello! Your food and drinks affect the traffic and appearance of the city; these commodities should be inside your store.)"
The owner of the store was shocked and ashamed to see a foreign city guard criticizing him and cleaned up his stuff immediately.
However, Diaz did not leave right away. He stood there, looked at the store, thought a bit and then told the owner, "您店面积小、商品太多、摆得又很乱,其实许多硬质箱体和瓶体的商品,不必摊开摆放,可以摞起来放,减少占地面积,这样不仅能够不需要出店,而且能使店内更宽敞。(Your store is small but has lots of commodities that are not arranged properly. Actually, a lot of hard boxes and bottles don't have to be laid separately on the ground. They can be piled up so they don't require such a big area; so now you can have more space in your store and these commodities don't have to be outside)."
After Diaz finished his speech, all the municipal administrators and the surrounded citizens were very surprised.
Yet, it seems that most Chinese netizens were not impressed. Many expressed negative reactions towards the incident, probably because of the bad impressions most of them hold towards the municipal administration:
"傻孩子穿了这个行头上帝会惩罚你的。" "Stupid child, wearing this uniform God will punish you.""你能一脚把人踢一米远吗?"
"Can you kick a guy one meter far?""他也体验了一把“街头霸王”的乐趣!"
"He has experienced the fun of being the 'lord of the street' too!"
Oof. Poor Diaz. And he was trying so hard too!

This is just too damned funny in so many ways.
Reading the story for the first time i thought he had taken it on himself to grab a 城管 shirt and start telling people what to do which would have been a bit arrogant but at the same time very funny. Watching the news report it became clear it was just a 城管 PR bit. Yawn--- i got to agree with the netizen comments posted above... who would want to be a chen guan?
