File this under "Things to take with a grain of salt": Rebiya Kadeer's family in China has apparently written a letter (in the Uyghur language) to the separatist leader, which was then translated into Chinese and English by Xinhua. The letter starts out thusly: "You once were the richest person in Xinjiang just because you were granted a lot of business opportunities and convenience by the Communist Party of China and the Government. But, despite repeated leniency of the Party and the Government, you ended up in prison under other people's enticement. You were allowed to go to the United States thanks to, once again, our government's leniency. You pledged to our government not to participate in any separatist activity before you departed for the United States. You broke your words anyway." I feel Kadeer's youngest son has more humour in a TV interview telling how he as legal person of company was punished by his mother's 7 million tax evation and how she demanded him "浇汽油自焚"---to toss gazeline over body and set himself on fire.

Yes, it's hard to know what is really going on here, especially when so few sides have the ability to look at both sides dispassionately. Even my Chinese level has already been decided without reasonable judgement, I wonder what makes people think they know the truth without having even 1% of the available facts to hand?
I'd advise you to trust anything by Kadeer since she's already been tested honest and true in Japan, that police "chased peaceful demonstrators into closed-off areas and then turned off streetlights and under the cover of darkness began to fire indiscriminately on them and then 10,000 disappeared”, BEFORE the riot began about 8 p.m. when the sun was still up in Urumqi.

Oakwoods: I guess the general idea is that the Chinese government has already locked her up multiple times, both for being a class enemy and as a political prisoner (for mailing newspaper clippings to her husband). The Chinese government also has a history of persecuting her family.
In that light, any single statement made by a family member of hers under Chinese rule, and in the aftermath of riots that are being largely blamed on her by the Chinese government, is no more than a coerced confession. They have a metaphorical gun to his head, so the general idea is any confession isn't valid - although for all I know she could be a terrible terrible person.
Who knows, but it's easy to frame the government as the bad guy here - they're the ones who locked her up for mailing newspaper clippings, after all.

You are undermining your arguement by making unreasonable assumptions about other posters on this thread.
I have no time for Hollywood, "rambo" as you put it, or large swathes of the western media, which are owned by big business and pursue an agenda just like the state media in China.
I'm just interested in an open debate, a concept totally alien to state media, and sadly beyond a lot of the Western media too.
"An open debate" should include not only a laugh at CCP but also a laugh at Kadeer's police firing indiscriminately under darkness and then 10,000 disappeared before 8PM Beijinbg time.
