This doesn't give us much confidence about the water quality in Shanghai: thousands of fish suddenly died yesterday in a Pudong river, according to Xinmin. About 10,000 dead river carp floated down the 1,500-meter stretch of Sanlin river to Sanlin Port and have started to decay and stink. The residents around the area at first started picking up the carp to eat, coming with barrels and plastic containers, but became scared when more and more fish showed up dead. Right now, the district environmental protection authority is saying that all the fish died thanks to a lack of oxygen - low air pressure and a new pump station could have made the water inhospitable. But they can't be completely sure until actual tests come in. Sounds... fishy. Photo from treehugger

I would stay away from all fish-based "street food" for a while.
To stay away from China forever would be a better idea.
Yeah, weather patterns and a pump station.
More like a big industrial spill somewhere upstream.
It's worth noting that the picture does not show the location we're talking about here.
If I may, it's misleading to match this image from a different story.
I'm not saying the Shanghaiist did it on purpose, as the reason I found the picture is about a different story is only because the Shanghaiist gave the source. ^-^
The complaint is only about the -choice- of using it without clearly mentioning it with a caption -like the original hereunder.
--It may also be technicaly dificult to have a caption next to the picture (this is not ironic).
Anyway thanks for the text story! and the source
