Netizens create Chinese characters

It's been a while since we've seen any netizen Chinese character creations - the last instance was in May during that whole Grass Mud Horse fiasco - so we're liking this new Hecaitou post (translated by the unfortunately blocked China Digital Times).

According to Hecaitou, netizens were inspired by the revision of 44 Chinese characters recently proposed by China's Ministry of Education. They decided to come up with three new ones in a fit of creativity yesterday.

Diang is a combination of 党中央 (dangzhongyang), the CCP Central Committee. It's a noun, adjective, and exclamation all rolled into one that basically means "Shut up or get beaten, what we say is correct."

Nan is made from 脑残 (naocan) and means brain damage - i.e. someone who's thinking has been crippled by party ideology.

Wao is an amalgation of 五毛 (wumao). Most of you guys know what the Wumao (50 cent) Army is already.

But our favorite part of the blog was this piece of work, called "LOST," which Hecaitou said was "Used for identification purposes among the Chinese traveling overseas. Those who saw this picture and laughed hard at first, then shed tears silently, can be identified as mainland Chinese." Without heading to China Digital Times for the answer, can you figure out why?
