Perhaps because of China's status as a mostly monocultural giant that's only just opening up the world, the topic of racism in this country is always a landmine-infested warzone. Just asking the question of whether most Chinese people are racist can cause the web to go into conniptions - an example being the Internet fight between China Geek and Hecaitou earlier this year.
Hecaitou was incensed enough by the semi-accusation to respond in English, arguing that China's never had slavery, so they can make fun of blacks; that the USA is more racist and therefore needs to be more politically correct and that no single black person in China has ever been discriminated against... amongst other things.
Right. Well, that was all done and buried with in March. What we're curious about though is, having read all that, what is his - and other prominent bloggers who may have touched on the issue's - reaction to how netizens are treating Lou Jing, the half-Chinese, half-black Shanghainese contestant on Dragon TV's Go! Oriental Angel?

To which one of the most supported (thumbs upped) replies on Netease's BBS was this comment by some netizen from Beijing:
1.父亲 是美国人,不是非洲人,说明你比较鄙视非洲人. (Your dad is an American, not an African, meaning you look down on Africans)
2.你是土生土长的上海人,说明你比较鄙视非上海人. (Your a born and bred Shanghainese, which means you look down on Non-Shanghainese)
3.父母的错做儿女的怎么能不体谅,一下子跟你没关系了.说明你不孝顺. (As a child, how is it that parents' mistakes suddenly have nothing to do with you. It means you're not filial)
4.说别人有种族歧视,我看你有种族歧视,地域歧视,不孝女. (Saying other people are racist, I think you're racist, ethnocentric and an unfilial daughter)非洲人,外地人,及你父母将保留诉诸法律的权利... (Africans, waidiren and your parents reserve the right to take legal action...)

We guess the whole not understanding that your skin color doesn't mean everything to your nationality or identity could mean that perhaps the biggest problem is that many Chinese don't even realize what they're saying is racist.
