Japan's embracement of reggae and dancehall has always been one of those things we've found delightfully peculiar. Luckily, their love for the island sound has actually produced quite a few listenable acts - one of which will be coming to the Shelter tonight.
Presented by Uprooted Sunshine and T&T, Cojie of the "world-renowned" Mighty Crown will be sound clashing the decks at the Shelter. Founded in 1991, Mighty Crown rose to fame after winning first place at Irish & Chin's World Clash New York in 1999, beating out many heavy (and Jamaican) contenders.
Tonight, Cojie'll get support from the Uprooted Sunshine and T&T crew. Also, if you get their early, Uprooted Sunshine's got two great mix CDs to give away to Shanghaiist readers. Just come up to the dj booth and shout "SHANGHAIIST" and the first two people to do it can have them. Get there early!
