Gosh, is there anything we love more than old photographs of China? Chopsticks Café & Bar up in Beijing is organizing an exhibition featuring photos from 1890 to the 1960s. The pictures were organized by the two owners of Beijing postcards, who gathered them over the course of a decade from both private collections abroad and from Chinese flea and antique markets.
The exhibition, which will run from tomorrow to October 11th, has three themes: Tiananmen - From Imperial Gate to the Visual Symbol of New China, The times they are a-changing - Manchus in Beijing from around 1900 to 1925, and Frozen in Time - Beijing opera in the 1930s.
Yes, this event unfortunately takes place up north and not here, but there's a reason we're talking about it (besides, you know, giving you something to do if you happen to be in Beijing over the weekend): You can find some cool old China photos up online (we're not sure if they are included in the show or not).
Head over to Ilishi.blog.sohu.com for a bunch of old picture goodness. The links are in Chinese, but if you can't read, just click around and you're bound to see something awesome. We've included the webpage urls from some our favorite collections above.
